After a bumpy January, February 1st found me in Stowe for some much needed art relief. I packed Catherine (family friend and babysitter extraordinaire) and little Elsa for the day trip.
Stowe is home to art galleries located in the village and up the mountain road. Our first stop had to be The Trapp Family Lodge because I adore it! Nothing gets me like a musical and I grew up with The Sound of Music, so for me the beauty and history of this lodge is magical.
The gallery hopping started with Inside Out Gallery. International and American fine crafts in a number of different mediums are shown here. The staff was so informative about the Stowe arts community too! Next on our list was Stowe Craft Design Center. This gallery had amazing kaleidoscopes and beautiful windblown wire wrapped trees made by local artist Randy Adams. The gallery represented many talented artist who make unique pieces all in the USA. Hy Suchman is another local sculptor represented by Green Mountain Fine Art Gallery. His Circle of Dancers was reminiscent of Giacometti- one of my favorite sculptors.
Stowe is just one exit down so we can enjoy its treasures any day. It really did make for a perfect day trip by having ski, art and wonderful cafes! I will spare you the pics of me and EVERY ice sculpture from their winter carnival. The ice carving competition has sculptures that are spread throughout Stowe in front of local businesses. Lots of pulling over & taking goofy photos! :) My car is now mud filled.
