Gallery Hopping In Stowe VT

After a bumpy January, February 1st found me in Stowe for some much needed art relief.  I packed Catherine (family friend and babysitter extraordinaire) and little Elsa for the day trip.

Stowe is home to art galleries located in the village and up the mountain road.  Our first stop had to be The Trapp Family Lodge because I adore it!  Nothing gets me like a musical and I grew up with The Sound of Music, so for me the beauty and history of this lodge is magical.

The gallery hopping started with Inside Out Gallery.  International and American fine crafts in a number of different mediums are shown here.  The staff was so informative about the Stowe arts community too!  Next on our list was Stowe Craft Design Center.  This gallery had amazing kaleidoscopes and beautiful windblown wire wrapped trees made by local artist Randy Adams. The gallery represented many talented artist who make unique pieces all in the USA.  Hy Suchman is another local sculptor represented by Green Mountain Fine Art Gallery.  His Circle of Dancers was reminiscent of Giacometti- one of my favorite sculptors.

Stowe is just one exit down so we can enjoy its treasures any day.  It really did make for a perfect day trip by having ski, art and wonderful cafes!  I will spare you the pics of me and EVERY ice sculpture from their winter carnival.   The ice carving competition has sculptures that are spread throughout Stowe in front of local businesses.  Lots of pulling over & taking goofy photos!  :)  My car is now mud filled.

Trapp Family Lodge really is a beautiful place to visit.

Vintage Arty-ness in Florida

My best friends wedding shower brought me for a quick trip to the sunshine state.  Surprisingly it was chilly but that didn't stop my two friends Jennifer & Adrienne from showing me Adjectives Market in Altamonte Springs Florida.  This place was AMAZING!  It featured over 90 vintage dealers in a 12,000 square foot building.  Filled with tons of antiques, we all found items that spoke to us.  Jennifer, the manager of Ten Thousand Villages was hunting for additions to her vintage plate collection.   Adrienne, an artist at Cafe Tu Tu Tango, located vintage Boston postcards (mental note, always make a funny postcard because years later someone might find it & smile) & of course for moi- BUTTONS!  We had fun seeing what others have collected, playing dress up & having yummy pizza at Wolfies PizzaMia.  Jennifer even found an admirer who was most certainly a history buff.  XO!

Kick off to Christmas!

It's that time of year for burning cinnamon candles, roasting chestnuts and bringing out your boots & faux fur - WINTER!  As I am a Floridian it's difficult to understand this phenomena of seasons.  However...as I am a northerner at heart, I LOVE IT!  I kicked off the holiday festivities with the Junior League of Champlain Valley's annual holiday party.   I have been a volunteer of JL for five years now (starting with JLFM) and continue to enjoy what the Association of Junior Leagues offers.  This organization is committed to developing the potential of woman through trained volunteerism and improving communities through effective action and leadership of these volunteers.  After my league in Florida I found a home in the Junior League of Champlain Valley.

Since most of our official meetings are done with, it was time to CELEBRATE!  Our President Sarah DeShaw welcomed us into her beautiful home where our league had fun, contributed to the Howard Center & were forced to play a yankee swap (joking).  What a great way to break the ice & enjoy each others company.  Here are some photo's of our exciting evening!
